SokolMusic's News

Posted by SokolMusic - June 8th, 2019

It's been a while since I've posted any real updates. There are some things I wish to inform you about.

First of all, I've been real busy with work, (late spring and all of summer is the busiest time-period for me) and haven't had much time or energy to work on my music. I've also realized that I need to spend more time studying basically everything about making music, from theory, composition, and orchestration, to mixing, referencing, and mastering.

I also wish to spend more time polishing my songs, whether it is re-writing some notes, fine-tuning individual tracks, or doing a better job of making my music sound more clear and professional.

Add all that together, it would take me around three or four months per song, instead of my one-song-a-month goal. But then again, it's not the quantity of music that counts, but the quality, and I need to improve my quality something fierce.

I have also been spending a couple of weeks working with Cubase Elements, and I must say, (I know it is an entry-level version but hear me out) I was a little disappointed. Judging between Cubase and Reaper, and the information I could find about using Cubase Pro, I frankly will be sticking with Reaper, for multiple reasons. Reaper does still have its annoyances, but after working with Cubase, I couldn't believe how well it functioned in comparison. I bought Cubase Elements EDU version for $10 off eBay (physical copy), so it really isn't much of a loss for me, and in fact saved me the multiple headaches I would have had if I went with the Pro version.

As for when I will release another song, that is uncertain. I have a few projects in various stages of completion, and a couple more I would like to start to get some of my ideas that I had in reserve on paper (so to speak).

I do appreciate the continued ratings and feedback, (actually surprised by how much of it is positive) and want to let you know that it helps me to want to continue doing this as a hobby.

Thank you!

I appreciate the feedback you guys have given me so far. As I have said before, I haven't been making music for that long and that in comparison to the commercially-released songs, mine suck. It will take time, experience, and continued feedback for me to get good at this, and I thank you for your patience. Let's get on with the news and updates.

First of all, I have recently bought Cubase Elements from someone for a really good price, and I have a song I would like to finish in Reaper, probably by the end of May or early June. After finishing said song, I would like to spend a month or two learning how to use Cubase and have that be my main DAW until I can afford to upgrade to Pro, so I probably won't be uploading any songs during June and July.

I also just got done uploading a new song on Youtube (for now, I'm just uploading my older songs to this site until I'm caught up) and for the first time, I've really utilized the dynamics in instruments. I haven't done so before due to both lack of knowledge, and admittedly just sheer laziness. Anyway, feel free to check out the song here, and let me know what you think of it.

Just letting everyone know, the songs that I am uploading to this site right now are songs I already composed awhile back and are already on Youtube; It usually takes me between 4-10 weeks to get a song done.

I probably have around 20 songs and a VST demo on Youtube right now, so feel free to check them out.

Also, I will be aiming to finish and upload a song at the end of every month, depending on how much free time I have to compose.

New user here! I couldn't have picked a worst time to sign up to Newgrounds than right before their "April Fools" joke.

I've started up a hobby in composing music (mainly orchestral) last year and have been posting my songs on Youtube and Soundcloud.

I noticed recently that a few respected indie composers (Denny Schneidemesser a.k.a. Danman87 for example) have started out posting their work here, so I thought to do so likewise. I am in no terms in the same league as Denny or other professional composers out there, but you gotta start somewhere.

I will be uploading my songs here as soon as I can, and I look forward to hearing any feedback you have for me, whether praiseworthy or critical. But please, keep the comments clean and professional.

Thanks!
